Introduction

We are pleased to announce the 2019 winners of the FFI GEN scholarships and to thank the generous sponsors of these five awards for leading the way in ensuring that professionals in the field receive the outstanding interdisciplinary education that FFI has become known for globally.

Crystal, The Private Group of Alliant Scholarship

The scholarship is for next-gen family business members who would like to formalize their learning on the family enterprise.

2019 Recipient

Luciana Lucena de Lima is a global senior advisor with more than 15 years of experience advising ultra-high-net-worth families. She is a PhD researcher at the St Gallen University and a Researcher Fellow at the ESADE University. Her research focuses on issues of family governance and succession and identity development and philanthropy. She has worked for global banks advising wealth families worldwide.

Crystal, The Private Group of Alliant is one of the world’s leading strategic risk and insurance advisors.

de Visscher & Co. Scholarship

In 2010, to celebrate its 20th year as a company devoted to advising family enterprises, de Visscher & Co. established a GEN scholarship for next generation consultants and advisors in the field.

2019 Recipient

Mita Dixit is a co-founder, Director, and a family business advisor at Equations Advisors Private Limited, India. With 20 years of consulting experience, she specializes in guiding business-owning families on family governance, next-gen transition, conflict management, succession planning, and organizational development. She is a researcher, academician, case writer, co-author of the book “The 5Gs of Family Business.” Mita has done doctoral research in conflict in Indian family businesses, and is a visiting faculty at renowned family business programs in India.

de Visscher & Co. is an independent financial adviser to business owning families and closely held businesses worldwide.

Waesche Family Scholarship

This scholarship is intended for those in need of financial support to take the next step in their professional development within the field of family enterprise. Preference is given to applicants who research and aid in the understanding of the inescapable influence of money on the family enterprise.

2019 Recipient

Shilpa Mirchandani serves as the Senior Wealth Planner for the Wealth Planning Group at City National Bank in Beverly Hills. Shilpa provides comprehensive wealth planning services to families, taking into consideration her their values, goals and family history and dynamics.  She is passionate about cultivating understanding and communication among families, and empowering the rising generation of inheritors, investors, and leaders through education and compassion.

D. Randolph Waesche, FFI Fellow, is president and CEO of Resource Management, LLC, a Louisiana Registered Investment Advisory firm. Randy and his firm are long-time sponsors of the Family Business Review and the FBR Best Reviewer Award in addition to his family’s generous support of this scholarship.

AlTouq Group Scholarship

The annual scholarship aims to support family business practitioners or Next-Gen family members, committed to the field of family enterprise.

2019 Recipient

Esther Kong, CFBA, is the Deputy Director of the Business Families Institute @ Singapore Management University (BFI@SMU). She is also an executive committee member of the FFI Asian Circle. As the Deputy Director, Esther structures and implements research partnership strategies, as well as leads the development of educational programs and bespoke events for business families and advisors.

The AlTouq Group is a Saudi Arabian Family Office established in the 1970’s as an investment vehicle for the AlTouq family. It has grown into a sophisticated local and international investor with a global revenue generating asset base.

Fitzpatrick & Francis Family Business Continuity Foundation Scholarship

This scholarship, for those who wish to pursue an FFI GEN Advanced Certificate, was established in 2013 to further its mission of ensuring that family businesses receive the best possible advice as they plan to successfully transfer ownership and leadership of their enterprise from one generation to the next.

2019 Recipient

Elaine King is a Family Business Advisor™ and a Certified Financial Planner™ professional who is considered an expert in international family financial planning and ambassador for the CFP Board of Standards. She is the founder of Family and Money Matters™ whose mission is to empower the family’s human & financial capital to make money a positive force. Elaine is a Florida Supreme Court Family Mediator and a Certified Coach from the University of Miami (ICF), and she serves on the advisory board for the Family Firm Institute (FFI), Asociación de Empresas Familiares (AEF), and The Estate Planning Council (EPC), among other organizations. She was recognized in 2017 as one of People en Español Magazine’s 25 Most Powerful Women.

Fitzpatrick & Francis Family Business Continuity Foundation is dedicated to providing financial support for the training and education of family business advisors either through grants directly to individuals or to institutions that provide education and training to individuals.
